About Festival Early Melons

2nd International Student Film Festival Early Melons - 11th-14th of March 2009

Early Melons is an International Student Film Festival held in Bratislava. It shows a diverse selection of Slovak and abroad student films. One of the basic aims of the festival is to enrich the offer of audiovisual cultural events in Slovakia and get Slovak audience closer to phenomenon of student cinematography. Early Melons project aims to encourage the cultural interchange and partnership between different countries and schools.

Program of the 2nd edition of festival is set to show a diverse display of student films. There will be an international competitive section in which an international jury will award the best films in the categories of Best Fiction, Best Animation, Best Documentary and Grand Prix.

Other festival screenings will be organized by special thematic selections. The program includes profiles of the partner festivals, exhibition of films made by children and high school students, films from countries outside the EU and films from non-european regions, video-art or photographic competition.

Festival`s aim is to present a variety of themes and techniques used in student films and to enable an engagement between public, film makers, school representatives and film professionals. This will help to build international relationships and enable possible future cooperation. It will also provide a base for an important multi-cultural exchange of ideas and experiences. 

International Competition of student films
Jury will award Grand Prix of the Early Melons Festival for the best student film in competition (prize is associated with financial award 700 EUR), Best Fiction/ Short-Feature Film Award, Best Documentary Film Award and Best Animated Film Award.

VideoFizz – International Competition
Jury, formed from three professionals of international art scene will award the Best video-art.

Audience Award
Part of the festival will be the Audience Award for the best film of the festival. Festival visitors may vote for their films in cinema lounge.
